Discover Europe during your studies

Even more internationality in your studies

At UMFST-UMCH, great value is placed on internationality. This is reflected not only in the fact that instruction is in English and students from various countries meet at the vibrant Elbe metropolis campus in Hamburg. In addition, UMFST-UMCH participates in the European ERASMUS program, allowing you to spend part of your studies in another exciting location.

Your unforgettable time abroad

ERASMUS is a program of the European Union, aimed at promoting student mobility within Europe. You will meet new cultures and people, improve your language skills, and develop intercultural competencies. Participating in the ERASMUS program is also always associated with lots of fun and unforgettable life experiences.

Numerous advantages - without loss of time

During your time abroad, you can make valuable contacts while immersing yourself in another university environment. In addition, you gain exciting insights into an additional university and healthcare system. You benefit not only personally but also professionally from such a stay abroad. By participating in the ERASMUS program, you will not lose any study time, so you do not need to worry about possible delays in completing your degree. The ECTS credits you earn while studying abroad will be seamlessly recognized by UMFST-UMCH, allowing you to continue your studies without interruption.

Career counseling and coaching sessions at UMFST-UMCH

Your personality matters

Achieve success through individual coaching

Healthy and goal-oriented through your studies

The Department for Counseling and Career Guidance at UMFST-UMCH (DCPC) allows students to benefit from various forms of psychological support. From career counseling to educational coaching, psychological counseling, and cognitive-behavioral therapy, factors such as the personality types of individual students, as well as their strengths and weaknesses, are taken into account. With the help of professional coaching measures specifically designed for academic use, students are supported in making decisions and learning how to best cope with the challenges of their demanding medical studies. Furthermore, psychological counseling and cognitive-behavioral programs help reduce the risk of burnout and psychological issues, enabling students to complete their studies healthily and in a goal-oriented manner. Participation in DCPC programs is entirely voluntary and free for all UMFST-UMCH students. All information provided during the counseling process is treated with strict confidentiality and in full compliance with applicable national and European regulations, as well as other rules, especially the Code of Ethics.

Career counseling and coaching at UMFST-UMCH

How the Department for Counseling and Career Guidance (DCPC) supports you — voluntary, free, and confidential

Academic coaching

In addition to career coaching during studies, UMFST-UMCH academic coaches provide general guidance to help students achieve optimal academic performance and develop a successful medical career. These goals can be reached by identifying the most effective learning techniques and setting individual targets for upcoming modules, leading to well-informed decisions regarding the choice of specializations during the course of study.

Career counseling

The career counseling program focuses on helping students integrate into the professional environment. It primarily supports them in deciding which specialty to pursue after graduation and in setting clear career goals. The process begins with an expert assessment based on the Five-Factor Model of Personality (FFM). Students receive a personalized profile outlining their tendencies (e.g., more extroverted or open) along with strengths and weaknesses associated with these traits.

Psychological counseling

Psychological counseling is a complex process involving psychological assessment and intervention. This approach aims to identify and resolve students’ psychological challenges related to stress, worry, and uncertainty throughout the academic year. In the early years of medical school, such reactions can be considered normal responses to challenging academic tasks and exams, provided they do not reach a level of dysfunction for the student.

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)

In specific, complex, and stressful situations, some individuals are prone to psychological issues such as depression or anxiety. DCPG programs offer students psychological support through CBT, one of the most effective evidence-based treatments, following protocols from the Beck Institute for Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (Philadelphia, USA). Students can access up to 15 CBT sessions, which may include Virtual Reality (VR) therapy to address phobias, panic attacks, generalized anxiety, and performance anxiety as needed. All therapy data is kept confidential in accordance with Law 213/2004 and the European General Data Protection Regulation.
