German Medical Terminology (GMT)
German Medical Terminology (GMT) is a 4 ECTS course included in the UMFST-UMCH curriculum for students starting from the 2026/27 academic year.
During the first two years of study, students attend three 120-minute GMT sessions per week. Based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), the course develops German language skills from A1 to B2, combining everyday German with medical terminology relevant to clinical practice.
The goal is to achieve B2 German proficiency, which is required for participation in the teaching hospital phase in Germany from the third year of study.
Native German speakers and students with existing German language skills may receive course recognition by providing appropriate proof, such as a school certificate, Goethe certificate or telc certificate, within their first week of study.
